The importance of a Good Head Shot
As much as we wish they did not, looks matter. Not being a super-model, but being professional and putting your best “self” out there. In the current world of social media being the first place a client or hiring manager sees you, the great headshot is critical. Imagine what you want as the first impression people get of you.
The show Brain Games had a study on how people can pick the winning candidate from just a photograph; the smile, the pose, the neat appearance. The episode was entitled Brain Games: Power of Persuasion and is currently still showing on the NatGeo channel.
There are many places to get them done and if you are very skilled with a camera, you may be able to do it yourself. But allow me to caution you, most “selfies” are not going to cut it. Overall, it is worth the investment to find a quality photographer with experience in headshots. A short sitting is usually very reasonable and you will go away with a quality digital version of your photo. I suggest even checking with your HR department or manager. They may be open to setting up an onsite “sitting” for a group of people at the office (like a picture day). Many photographers will give a good deal for a group of back to back sessions in one location.
Regardless of your profession, or your current level in it, this can help make a difference. Remember to not represent yourself as who you are now, but who you want to be.
Note – I have an associate who is a very good photographer, with a nice amount of experience in people and headshots. Check him out at https://www.midmnphotography.com/
